Recipe: Chocolate and Hazelnut oats
Dig in to this healthy treat of a breakfast that feels almost like a dessert but is packed full of whole food plant-based goodness. This will keep you satiated for hours thanks to the oats which release energy more slowly than refined grains and cereals, and the healthy fats in the hazelnuts.
Ingredients (for 1 good sized portion)
60g oats
350ml milk of your choice (I used coconut milk)
2 tbsp chopped hazelnuts
Half a banana (mashed)
1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)
1 tsp cacao powder
1 medjool date
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Method
Put all ingredients into a pan and cook over a medium to low heat for 5-10 minutes , until the date has melted into the porridge and the mixture is thick and creamy.
Finish with whatever toppings you like! I used banana, strawberries, more chopped hazelnuts and cacao nibs.
Nutritional notes
Hazelnuts are not only a healthy fat, but also a good source of fibre, vitamin E (great for healthy skin and eyes), manganese and antioxidants.
